FFXIV Guides
Tuesday, April 20th, 2010This page is aimed at providing new players to FF14 with a general overview of available Final Fantasy XIV disciplines (classes/jobs…). However, for a full guide I recommend heading over to Killer Guides and grabbing a copy of their FFXIV guide – it excels at content up to the highest levels.
Players new to Final Fantasy 14 often have a hard time deciding which direction they should take their character. There are always four disciplines to choose from – war, magic, land and hand. Unique about this system is that in Square Enix latest MMO, crafters are actually a unique discipline – unlike traditional MMO titles where it’s a secondary attribute by default.
Below you’ll find some FF14 guides to the four different disciples, making it easier to find your place in the world.
Disciples of War Guide

If you used to play a tank or melee DPS in other games, this is the path you want to stick to. They are the most versatile when it comes to yielding weapons – from spears and axes, to swords, katanas and bows. Disciples of War are your go-to place for all things punching, clubbing, hitting and slashing. An FFXIV guide that covers this disciple well, will show you not only where to rise through the levels the quickest, but also how to handle your character well in groups.
Disciples of Magic Guide

Throwing healers and magic DPS into one group might seem strange to others, but as usual Square Enix knows what they’re doing. Not interested in amassing wealth? Not wanting to get your hands dirty? Then this path is the right one for you. If you ever played a priest, mage, sorcerer or wizard in another MMORPG, then you’ll be at home in this tree.
Disciples of the Hand

If you are longing for a medieval life where goldsmiths and blacksmiths work away in their show from dawn till dusk, thenĀ the disciple of hand will guide you to this world. From alchemy to cooking (fairly well know professions to veteran RPG players) to boneworking and leathercrafting there is a multitude of options that FF14 provides to players who prefer a quiet, commercial live over savage hunting.
Disciples of the Land

The disciples of Land such as Fishing, mining, lumbering and anything else that grows or comes out of earth and water is included in this branch. Not only for old-school trappers and rangers, FF14 offers some career opportunities outside the usual tank/healer/dps triumvirate. If you’re looking for honest work, then this disciple path guides you to it. And unlike in the real world, in Final Fantasy, you can actually make a decent income from menial work.
